Blog EntryThe 100!Nov 29, '07 7:17 PM
for everyone
In Pilates, there is a very core movement called "The 100". It's illustrated here in mat pilates, but if you can picture her laying on a movable "bed" of sorts, with her hands in straps, connected to wires that, via a sort of pulley system, slide that bed forward and back, working against the resistance of various springs ... well, then you're a flippin' genius, cuz I think I just gave a horrible description of a "Reformer", but anyway, that would be some of the exercises I find myself doing once or twice a week in my class. For a description of the entire exercise, please visit the site from which I lovingly "borrowed" my image.

Yes, this would be the introduction to my list of "100 things about me you never really wanted to know but eh, what the hell you already can't sleep and it's about 2 a.m. so why not start going through this list, because at the very least it'll put you to sleep."  I've read Cherie and Mick's list of 100 things and thought it might be cathartic (or something), so I did it, too. Don't feel compelled to read it. As I'm sure you've seen by now, I can't do anything in a short, succinct manner. It was just a good exercise to go through, so I'm posting it (besides, it took me 3 damned days to write it .. I'm not just going to let it do nothing). If, however, you find yourself scratching your head in confusion or needing any clarification for anything listed below, let me know.

1.    I’ve never had a speeding ticket.
2.    I love horror books and movies …
3.    … but I’m secretly (or, um, not-so-secretly, now) afraid of those Pilsbury biscuit cans that you have to twist until they POP open. I’m not overly fond of jack-in-the-boxes, either.
4.    I don’t like my hands to be messy. I’m not neurotic about it or anything, but it’s part of the reason I didn’t do well in sculpture classes.
5.    I love hair. I love playing with other peoples’ hair and having them play with mine.
6.    I hate, however, being touched by strangers.
7.    I’ve never really had a desire to have children.
8.    I can sing the Indian national anthem … in Hindi!
9.    I’m ridiculously afraid of heights. I break out in a sweat once I pass the 3rd rung on a ladder.
10.     Apples are my favorite fruit, followed closely by strawberries.
11.     I get an allergic reaction on any skin that is touched, for any length of time, by latex.
12.     I was a tomboy AND a bully when I was a kid. I’ve shoved a lot of people down and given a lot of bloody noses.
13.     I once accidentally killed a kitten when I was about 5 or 6 by landing on it when I jumped off our porch at dusk. The neighbors from nearly a mile away called because I screamed so loud and for so long. Still makes me teary-eyed.
14.     I also accidentally killed a gosling when our family of geese ran out in front of my bicycle as I was pulling into the driveway. I tried to stop and realized I stopped on one of the goslings’ necks. Wow, I need to think of a new subject.
15.     My all-time favorite breakfast is toast and roasted honey-nut Skippy peanut butter and OJ with lots of pulp.
16.     I have enough experience with ouija boards to have a firm belief that there are definitely things around us that we can not see and I do not understand.
17.     I put ketchup on my tacos.
18.     I have taken over 10 years of piano lessons, and, before I moved to where I didn’t have a piano, started to compose a little.
19.     I’ve ridden both camels and elephants, and neither was at a circus or anything like that.
20.     I’m not really overly fond of receiving flowers, but when I do, wildflowers are my favorites (especially daisies).
21.     In my heart of hearts, I would absolutely love to be a writer, but it’s one of those things I just can’t see ever happening.
22.     I wish I weren’t so judgmental. It’s something I’m working on.
23.     Being alone never used to bother me until Jeremy came into my life. Now I get lonely pretty quickly.
24.     I was taught to shoot as soon as I was old enough to hold up a gun. My father always believed that if he took the “mystery” out of guns, he would remove much of the danger associated with kids and firearms and he was right.
25.     A couple of years ago, I contacted Ted Nugent’s PR people to try to get him to speak at an industry function. It came to fruition, and it was great meeting the Motor City Madman in person. He was really personable and an excellent speaker!
26.     In 1994, I spent a few nights sleeping in an old prison (Langenholm) cell (bunk beds) in Stockholm, with a physicist from Finland whom I’d never met before that trip.
27.     On that same trip, I ended up nearly running out of money, so I shared a cheap hotel room in Paris with a girl from Canada that I met on the train.
28.     No one bothered to tell me that many people in India do not use toilet paper, until I arrived there at 3 a.m. at the end of monsoon season, 1987. The Internet wasn’t around then with such helpful information as that.
29.     I’ve been out on a shrimp boat in the bayous of Louisiana.
30.     I once hung out the passenger’s side window of a moving semi truck to pass a pack of cigarettes to the driver of another semi driving alongside us.
31.     When I was 16, I got kicked out of a temple in India for sitting in the open palm of a large Buddha statue.
32.     I still have the scar from the tailpipe burn I got after my first motorcycle ride when I was 16. Damn, forgot to include that one in my “Scars” blog!
33.     My toes (especially the ones to the outside of my foot) curl downward like they’re holding onto the ground for dear life and I think it’s ugly as hell.
34.     My ultimate dream vacation spot is Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia.
35.     Some of my friends are more important to me than most of my family.
36.     I forgive but I almost never forget.
37.     The two famous people I’d probably most enjoy having a conversation with would be Geoff Tate (lead singer of Queensryche) and Drew Barrymore. I’ve heard, from people who know her, that she is extremely kind and down-to-earth. I think she’s beautiful, funny and extremely talented.
38.     My favorite color, in general, is olive. I prefer earth tones.
39.     Pecan is my favorite pie.
40.     I have never knowingly used an illegal drug.
41.     I hate to shower. I know it’s a necessary thing, but I absolutely hate everything about it. I find it a horrible waste of time and if I could eliminate one thing from my routine, that would be it.
42.     I do not like to talk on the phone. I’d much prefer to e-mail someone than to call them.
43.     I really hate shopping in general. Unless it’s for gifts for people at Christmas or birthdays and such. ☺ Then I love it.
44.     I cry more over animal-related issues, in general, than human-related.
45.     I used to be pretty smart at math. I went to regional-level math competitions in Junior High/HS for 3 years in a row, and on the 3rd year, I placed high enough to go to state.
46.     I still communicate via e-mail with my HS Art Teacher.
47.     My mom once told me I had ugly, fat lips like my father so throughout high school I would often be seen biting down on the insides of them so they didn’t seem so big.
48.     I loved college and learning. If there was a good University near us, I’d go back for my master’s degree in a heartbeat.
49.     I sing in the car. Loudly.
50.     For Halloween a couple years ago, a group of friends and I dressed up as the characters from CLUE. I was the French maid and I had waaaay more fun than I should have at that party. At least from what I remember. Unfortunately, there are photos …
51.     I fell for the “No, really, we’re divorced” line once.
52.     I used to meditate in college and I’m sorry I got out of the habit.
53.     I know all the words to “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by heart, and got a standing ovation from a group of marines once, when I sang it at a karaoke bar.
54.     When I was about 6 or 7 (I think 2nd grade) I got a call from the White House, because I wrote a letter to the President about my anger over people who were riding their bicycles on the highway improperly. See? It’s not just as an adult that I made a fuss over things that pissed me off. Haha.
55.     Vans totally creep me out. I'll never own one and doubt if I'll ever ride in one.
56.     I’m irrationally afraid of spiders, and it all stems from a comic book.
57.     I’m rationally afraid of hornets because I fell and put my hand in the middle of a hornet’s nest when I was 15.
58.     I knew how to put ‘English’ on a pool ball by the time I was 5.
59.     In HS I sang in the choir, which was actually a quartet, because I grew up in such a small town.
60.     I never got involved in any sports in school, except volleyball.
61.     My favorite smells in the world: storms on Lake Superior, woodstove smoke, wet sagebrush, puppy breath and Jeremy’s after shave.
62.     I own 5 pairs of shoes, and that’s just fine by me: an old pair of Nikes for the gym, hiking boots, sandals, brown dress shoes and black dress shoes.
63.     In HS, I didn’t go to any proms, never kissed a boy, never slow danced with anyone, didn’t date, nothing. The first time I ever really slow danced with a guy was when I was 34 – it was with Jeremy.
64.     I am a terrible dancer.
65.     I was in Paris for Bastille Day 1994, which I was told was the first year they allowed the German tanks into the parades. I’ve never felt anything like that rumbling – really scary.
66.     Air shows scare the hell out of me.
67.     I always get broccoli and cauliflower confused.
68.     When I’m recuperating after being sick, I always crave tacos. Jeremy knows this and always buys the fixings for them, and often brings home a nice bouquet of wildflowers at the same time.
69.     I very rarely feel jealousy over other peoples’ successes and good fortune.
70.     In the winter my nose is almost always cold and it takes an awful lot to get it warm again.
71.     I have a tattoo that is of a drawing I made in college.
72.     I saw Star Wars (the original one) when I was 6, from the back of a convertible at a drive-in.
73.     I have pretty much no fashion sense (should be evident by #62).
74.     Between the two of us, my college roommate (also my best friend) and I had every single Iron Maiden Eddie poster in existence in 1990, except the door-length one where Eddie’s gun followed you when you walked by. Our dorm room totally rocked!
75.     I’m extremely gullible and generally very trusting, which can be a dangerous mix.
76.     I once saw two people killed in front of me.
77.     When I was in 9th grade I started teaching seniors how to program BASIC, and when I graduated from HS, I got a job programming COBOL.
78.     I love freckles and wish I had a bunch.
79.     I think a good sense of humor makes ANYONE more attractive.
80.     I love playing games (card games, board games, etc.) but am not too fond of video games.
81.     I actually really enjoy being a Gemini. Even some of the “bad” traits associated with it are fun to me.
82.     I’ve never been married, but have been proposed to 1.5 times (the .5 was, after I told him I was leaving him, he said, “I guess I better go return this ring.” Ooops)
83.     I’m not sure how I ever managed to watch tv prior to getting TiVo.
84.     I once had a very destructive on-again, off-again near-10-year relationship (much of it long-distance) with a Canadian newscaster.
85.     I love giving speeches and presentations!
86.     I remember, very vividly, the day I told my father I did not believe in God.
87.     When I used to go for walks in the woods as a kid, I’d have a following of goats, cats, dogs, sometimes a lamb and, if I stayed on the dirt road long enough, our pet turkey, Henrietta. Think I’m kidding? I’ll dig out the pics. ☺
88.     I really love wind and fresh air. In the spring and fall, I often have the heater blasting in my car and the windows rolled down.
89.     It has taken me 3 days to come up with 89 things about myself I think someone out there somewhere might actually be interested in hearing, sheesh.
90.     I have a feeling 2008 might well bring about some very exciting career opportunities for me.
91.     You couldn’t pay me enough to go back and re-live high school.
92.     I used to write poetry, and my dream in college was to publish a book of my poems, illustrated by me, to be sold with a CD of my piano compositions. My goal was to do this by age 40. Don’t think I’m gonna make it. ☺
93.     In preparation for that goal, I put together my own little book in college, and my poetry professor asked for a signed copy so he could have something valuable to retire on. Haha. Gotta love profs like that!
94.     I have a really difficult time walking by the Salvation Army folks without putting money in their bucket, and if I don’t have any to put in there, I’ll often even go so far as to go into the store through a different door or have even gone to a different store altogether just to avoid the guilt I feel.
95.     I have a tendency to step or fall into many bodies of water I’m photographing.
96.     I love dog kisses! I would rather be kissed by a dog than a kid.
97.     I used to be a real headbanger in college. My first concert was Metallica, and, although I’m not really a huge fan of hard rock/heavy metal concerts, by far the Operation:Mindcrime II tour for Queensryche was the best I’ve ever seen.
98.     I still love Ozzy Osbourne’s music. I think he’s a musical genius, regardless of “The Osbournes”.
99.     I have never been mistaken more for a hooker than I was in India (at least to my knowledge). Maybe I should rephrase that as, “I have never been propositioned more as a mistaken hooker.”
100.    I really like to look through catalogs of funny T-shirt sayings, but I don’t think I’d ever really wear any of them, no matter how much they made me laugh.
